Welcome to the studio.
We do what we do because handmade is better: it’s higher quality, allows for more creativity and champions local skills & talent. All this whilst helping to reduce fabric waste in the UK fashion industry.
We are a British clothing label designing and creating beautiful one-of-a-kind clothing & accessories for women and men.
We’re dedicated to fashion sustainable working exclusively with vintage fabrics & end-of-roll remnants which would otherwise find their way to landfill. This also means that when you buy a new item of clothing you are adding another chapter to the story of each beautiful cloth. Every item is handmade by our all-female team in our Brighton studio.
We’re passionate about sustainable business. This isn’t simply about products and supply chains, it’s about the people behind the brand. Every member of our team is paid the living wage and gets the opportunity to develop their creative & technical skills in our friendly Brighton studio.
Why have we signed up to the living wage campaign?
We believe that every individual has the right to a fair wage, no matter their role or job title. We truly value the skills, diligence and innovation that every member of our team brings to their role at The Emperor’s Old Clothes. We want them to feel valued and have job security – being part of the Living Wage campaign is just one of the ways in which we achieve this.
Meet the Team
Having dabbled in sewing and crafts since childhood, Cecily studied sewing & pattern-cutting locally and at the London College of Fashion. She designs, pattern-cuts and creates our clothing & accessories as well as running our bespoke service.
Louisa is a core member of our team. Bringing her many years of sewing experience, she helps to develop new designs and create our unique range of ready-to-wear clothing from our cosy Brighton studio.
Love all the images of our handmade wares? That’s all down to our wonderful marketing assistant Lou. She photographs everything we create and makes sure you get to see it in our Etsy shop and across our social media channels.
The latest addition to our small team: Geneva is our new Studio Assistant helping to create our handmade clothing and accessories.
Sarah is a really talented and experienced seamstress. She helps Cecily to cut out our ready-to-wear garments and accessories ready to sew.
Izaskun assists Lou with our marketing and photography, as well as helping to build our new website – coming soon!
